Shade Tree Players
Shade Tree Players Logo
The Shade Tree Players was first organized in 1970 by Sister Barbara Ann Gehrki, University of Mary, and Lee Nagel, a local educator. Their purpose was to establish a children's theater where the preformances would be entirely child acted. After going through many changes, Shade Tree Players merged with Dakota Stage Ltd. in 1991. This merger provided the Shade Tree Players with a home, storage, administrative support, theatrical advice and counsel.

In 2005, Shade Tree Players moved into the Frances Leach High Prairie Arts and Science Complex. The move has enabled Shade Tree Players to further expand the ever-growing program which now includes fall and spring acting classes, theatre workshops and six full length productions throughout the summer months.

Participation in Shade Tree Players is more than a summer activity. The lessons and skills learned will prove invaluable to young people over the course of their lives. The program accepts children ages six through sixteen.

Working on a theatrical production fosters team spirit, develops public speaking skills, promotes poise and quick thinking in demanding situations and instills professionalism, responsibility, commitment and discipline. These attributes, while integral in producing a play, translate into every vocation later in life. Participation in Shade Tree Players helps children to grow and expand their horizons, it and prepares them for future careers while they are having fun.

Parent help and support are essential to Shade Tree Players. The program depends on parent involvement to make the shows happen. There are a variety of ways that parents can join their children in this wonderful experience - everything from gathering props and costumes or helping with makeup to running the lights. Please consider becoming involved.
